What a disappointment yesterday. No way was that a 4-1 game. Yes, the disallowed goal might have made a difference, but we will get a whole lot more of that sort thing between now and the end of the season.
Still, whilst being impressed with Chelmsford, they have clearly spent big on the midfield/attack, but their defence and goalkeeping departments will certainly need work if they make the conference next season, as I will be amazed if they don’t finish in the play offs.
That seems to be the case with many teams in the league this season, some sides have unbelievable talent up front, but at the back they look weak, we just need to keep them out in our penalty box and I think we have a chance against most defences in the league. Maybe if we had Dorchester every week we really would be OK.
Whilst looking dangerous up front, I do think the opinion of needing a striker with “muscle” up front is correct. If plan a is not working, there isn’t really a plan b.
Two massive games coming up, real 6 pointers as the saying goes. But this is Weymouth. I have lost count over the years of how many times we have mucked it up against the sides we should on paper be capable of beating, only to pull out results against the “fancied” teams. I have a feeling this might happen again.
I was really disappointed with the gate yesterday. I didn’t expect a huge turnout, but I thought we might have got a couple of hundred more at least. But it would seem we are back down to the 500/650 hardcore base that we had around the time of the Geoff Butler era. Common link-team on the field struggling against relegation. We can look at the crowds the sides at the top are getting, but I also remember they were getting similar crowds to us a little while ago when things were not rosy with them. It just goes in cycles, it’s up to us all to turn it around, but the club needs to play its part in this.
The trouble is, from what I can see, is that we are waiting for someone with a bulging wallet to come along again. No sponsors again yesterday. Surely asking less is better than nothing? It does seem unless you can chuck tens of thousands at the club, they are not interested.
We all have to remember just what a mess has gone on over the last few years. Yes, we know what has caused the vast majority of the trouble, but maybe we have to get used to the fact that Blue Square Premier football is a long way off in the present climate. Unless things dramatically change off the pitch, we could well be playing Zammeretto football next season. So I can’t see why the club are talking about clearing the debt and challenging for a Conference return in the near future. Unless however, they know something we don’t.
Till next time,
Rich.
